Planting done right the first time, and pruning that respects how the plant grows.
Planting is where most of the long-term outcome gets decided, and in Laredo the soil makes it unforgiving. A tree set too deep, or dropped into a hole cut straight into caliche with no drainage plan, will decline for years before it dies. We dig wide rather than deep, set the root flare at grade, and make sure water can actually leave the hole.
On the pruning side the goal is structure and airflow, not a hedge trimmer run down everything at the same height. Cuts are made at the right point on the branch and at the right time of year for the species.

Plant in fall, not spring
Laredo's average last frost is around the second week of February and the first frost usually holds off until early December. That long shoulder season is the real planting window. A tree that goes in during October or November has months of mild weather to push roots out before it faces its first Laredo summer.
The same tree planted in April gets a few weeks before it is asked to survive triple-digit heat on a root ball that has barely left the pot. The survival difference is not subtle, and it costs nothing to wait for the right window.

When is the best time to plant a tree in Laredo?
October through December. Soil is still warm enough to keep roots growing while air temperatures have dropped, giving the plant months to establish before summer. Spring planting is survivable but much harder on the tree.
Do you top trees?
No. Topping removes the canopy the tree feeds on and forces weak regrowth that fails in the next windstorm. If a tree is too large for its space we thin and reduce it properly, or we talk honestly about whether it is the right tree for that spot.
Can you trim palms?
Yes, including dead frond removal and seed pod cleanup. We do not over-trim into the narrow hurricane cut, which stresses the palm and offers no real storm benefit.
